
Firing Order Marketing was launched in the week of March 2026, built directly from my firsthand experience as a small business owner in the automotive and performance engine industry. Like any founder starting from scratch, I designed the website, created the logo, run the ads, produce the content, and handle day-to-day operations myself.
Long before that, cars were always part of my life. I was born and raised at the sprint car track, growing up around the World of Outlaws and legends like Sammy Swindell, Brent Kaeding, and Dave Bradway. Then from age 10-21, I raced shifter karts professionally and was one of the most accomplished racers in my region with 300 awards, 22 championships, and a national champion.
That background eventually led me to owning and operating a small-block performance engine company, which I ran for over 15 years. From day one, I wore every hat — sales, operations, customer service, and marketing. That business grew into an international brand that sold $49M worth of engines over that 15 year period. My engines were featured in magazines, TV shows, and I had done business with multiple celebrities and athletes... and they all paid full price haha!
In the early years, the business grew steadily, but over time the same problems kept surfacing. Revenue was inconsistent. Lead quality was unpredictable. Many callers were confused, unqualified, or looking for work we didn’t even offer.
I hired outside marketing agencies and freelancers to fix the problem. Most sounded confident. Most had polished presentations. But within 90 days, it became clear they didn’t understand my business, my industry, or what we were actually selling. The results were disappointing every time.
That experience is where the frustration most shop owners feel toward marketers really comes from — being sold generic strategies that don’t fit how mechanical businesses actually operate. These sales cycles are built around trust and knowing your services cold so if you don't know these services, the technical terms, or how the buyer thinks then you're toast.
Eventually, I stopped outsourcing marketing altogether and took full ownership of it. I taught myself digital advertising, Google Ads, SEO, email marketing, and website strategy, rebuilding everything around how customers in this industry actually search, call, and buy.
That shift changed everything. Within six months, the business hit record numbers and continued to grow year after year. The marketing finally matched the reality of the work — high-ticket services, long decision cycles, and customers who needed trust before they picked up the phone.
I didn’t learn marketing in a classroom. I learned it because I had to make it work for my own business.
Eventually, material shortages and manufacturing challenges forced me to step away from the engine business. But the marketing systems I built — and the lessons learned from getting it wrong so many times — stuck with me.
Today, Firing Order Marketing exists to help auto repair shops, machine shops, performance garages, and specialty mechanical businesses avoid the same costly mistakes I made. The goal is simple: provide PPC and paid ads management services that actually fits how consumers search.
